Q1 Report from CIDQ CEO

Hi there!

I hope everyone’s 2025 is off to a great start. 2024 was a momentous year for CIDQ. We capped off our yearlong recognition of CIDQ’s 50th anniversary with a celebration of accomplishment at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium held in conjunction with our Annual Meeting. We were honored by the presence of 24  CIDQ Past Presidents. It was a beautiful, albeit chilly, evening and a fitting recognition of the organization’s evolution and success.

Never an organization to rest on its laurels, CIDQ is well underway in advancing our 2025 strategic initiatives. Following the completion of our latest Practice Analysis in November, CIDQ developed new blueprints for the NCIDQ Exam which guide our exam committees in developing new items (questions) and reworking old ones to reflect the content changes. The new content and format changes will go into effect with the spring 2026 test administration.

With two new states (Pennsylvania and Nebraska) added to the list in 2024, the number of jurisdictions regulating interior design has grown to twenty-nine states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and eight Canadian provinces. With the traction gained over the past few years by the Consortium for Interior Design which advocates for public health, safety, and welfare, I’m very optimistic about continued gains in pursuit of universal regulation of interior design across the United States and Canada.

Much of the effort mentioned above is tied to educating lawmakers and the public about the impact of NCIDQ Certified interior designers on public health, safety, and welfare. In addition to the resources already created,  many of you have heard our messaging on National Public Radio (NPR) and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in the fall of 2024. We’re currently reviewing the data from those outreach efforts and anticipate extending our public awareness campaigns into 2025.

Lastly, congratulations to our 505 new certificate holders resulting from the fall 2024 exam administration! I hope all our active certificate holders will download their digital badges and proudly celebrate their accomplishments across all their social platforms and professional communications.
